Health and Nutrition:

Health and Nutrition is one of the major & successful areas on which NADO had been working since its inception in the year 1989. NADO has been providing primary health care services to its targeted beneficiaries/people with cooperation from the field level health workers of the govt. and also extends support to the programs implemented by the govt. health workers at the field level particularly in the area of immunization and family planning etc.


Vulnerable Group Development (VGD):

Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) are the major & successful areas on which NADO had been working since 2010 to till now. Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) is WFP’s largest Public awareness campaign to empowerment and poverty reducing activity that exclusively targets ultra-poor women in urban & rural area at Bangladesh.


Empowerment of Adolescents and Women:

Empowerment of women as a major component of almost all the project activities of the organization has been emphasized. Advocacy campaign run under different the project activities include social and family status of the women, their constructive role in the family and rights in the society, their involvement in organization and management, credit-awareness and management, the importance of their literacy and numeric, and selection of income generating activities and management by them.


Services Provided in Family planning and reproductive health:

NADO has been working in the field of family planning through its own initiatives since 1989. The organization and its associates have been implementing Population Control through Awareness Raising in its different working areas.  

Health, hygiene, Safe water and nutrition:

For the rural disadvantaged poor people advocacy on health issues and healthcare measures are important. The advocacy programs on health, hygiene and nutrition are conducted through PRA sessions, tea stall sessions, and folk songs/theatres/dramas, and video shows/ documentary films, 16 mm film shows. For the advocacy programs women volunteers, Union hygiene promoters and masons ate engaged at field level.


Water and sanitation:

Water and sanitation is one of the major & successful issues of primary health care. Most of the diseases of human being are caused for the contaminated water or unhygienic sanitation system in our country. The diseases caused by contaminated water and unhygienic sanitation leads to severe deficiency of nutrition in human body and economical loss. It has been found through NADO’s interventions that, particularly the children are the major victim of it and sometime it creates complicacy and even leads to death.


Basic/Primary/Non-formal Education:

NADO has been implementing the project activities of regarding non-formal and basic/primary education. The project, funded by BRAC, was started in July 2000 and ended in June 2003. The target learners of the project were the unprivileged children who had not attended any school or dropped out of school, and also the illiterate and underprivileged adults. 4050 learners including 2790 girl/females and 1260 boys/males were direct beneficiaries of project.


Non-Formal Education Project:

NADO implemented the project activities at Kashiani Upazila under Gopalgonj district. The project, funded by BRAC, was started in January 1997 and ended in December 2003. The major activities of the project included area selection, selection of center, staff (teachers) and learners (age group: adolescents 11-14, and adults 15-24), formation of committees, supplying materials, giving non-formal education, i.e., developing reading, writing and arithmetic skills of both the children and the adults.


Homestead gardening:

As the back-up to the health and nutrition programs, NADO promotes homestead gardening programs among its target population. As part of the program, NADO imparted training to the selected group members on it and distributed vegetable seeds and saplings of fruits like: banana, guava, mango, jackfruits, papaya, lemon etc. either free of cost or in a subsidized rate. In this regard NADO received all-out support from the govt. agriculture extension department.


Poultry and livestock: 

NADO has been implementing poultry and livestock program with a view to meet the deficiency of protein among the community. Distribution of poultry birds, vaccination and imparting training are the major components of this program. NADO also has livestock vaccination program at its program area with support from other potential NGOs.  Govt.’s poultry and livestock department provides all sorts of cooperation to NADO in running the programs.


Leadership Training for Group Members:

Leadership development along with orientation in different social and family matters is a very important intervention of NADO. Leadership development training is intended for the group members under different project interventions. The training programs focus financial management of community fund, conflict management, and bottom-up planning for sustainable rural livelihoods.


Disaster preparedness & management:

Bangladesh is basically a disaster prone country and situated at the Ganges basin formed with alluvial soil. From the ancient period, the country is affected by the natural disaster like: flood, cyclone, tornado, drought, landslides, river erosion etc. Because of the greenhouse effect, climate change and other man-made reasons, the natural disaster has emerged as a yearly-event and a new dimension has added to that and that is earthquake. Considering the reality and needs, NADO undertook disaster preparedness and management programs a few years back in order to reduce the damages with regard to the lives, wealth of the beneficiaries and their belongings as well as the crops.  Over the years, NADO imparted training to the community people on disaster preparedness and management with support from potential NGOs, INGOs and the govt. Apart from this NADO also has experience on launching relief and rehabilitation program with its own resources and collected from other sources.


Program for Disadvantaged Women:

Such Program activities are targeted for landless households, marginal farmers, small farmers, destitute women, divorced/family head women etc. For the underprivileged women, training programs on group organization and management, credit-awareness and management, basic literacy and numeric, and selection of income generating activities and management ate conducted.


Child Labor:

The vulnerable children working at hazardous working areas have been especial areas of concern. For such children, the major activities of the organization include selecting working (labor) children (both girls and boys) through field survey, forming committees (including guardians, local elites, local government providing non-formal education to the children, and imparting skill development training (STD) to them to tailoring, embroidery, boutique/block print, cooking/food processing, candle making etc. Credit support is also given to the learners’ parents etc.


Child rights:

According to the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child, all human being under the age of 18 are treated as child. Bangladesh govt. has ratified the charter containing 54 articles upholding the rights of the child. With regard to the UN Charter on the rights of the child, NADO had been implementing child rights programs since more than a decade. NADO is also playing an important role in promoting the child rights at all level as one of the members of the Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF), the only national child rights network of NGOs in the country. NADO had been implementing a series of programs on child rights like: education, health & nutrition, eliminating worst form of child labor, child trafficking and providing training on skill development so as to earn some income to contribute their families for a better livelihood.

NADO gives emphasis to the children who are disabled or differently able while delivering services at the community level. Advocating with employers for a better working environment and wages for the working children is one of the priority areas of NADO as far as child rights is concerned.


Human rights and legal aid:

Every child do come to the earth with some basic human rights. Bangladesh is one of the signatory states of the UN convention on the Human Rights. NADO, as a developmental organization upholds the spirit of the human rights at all level and in accordance with the constitution of Bangladesh, it plans and implements the human rights program at the program area. Under the program, NADO imparted training to NGOs, CBOs and the group members as well with cooperation from other potential human rights organizations and the local bar association.


Gender equity and development:

NADO believes in and committed to gender equity. Based on that, NADO formulated the gender policy for its execution within the organization. Apart from this, NADO also imparted training to the staff members of other NGOs with a view to create awareness among them and a positive attitude towards the gender equity. While imparting training to the staff members and the target group members on any issue, NADO keeps the gender issue in mind and make schedule in that manner. Of the total staff, around 50% are the female, and among the program and administrative staff, more than 50% are female.


Social Forestation:

The program activities are being implemented at Kashiani Upazila under Gopalgonj district. The project, funded by Ministry of Forest, was started in 2003 and will continue up to 2008. The major activities of the project include group formation and mobilization, imparting training to groups, sit/road selection, tree purchase and plantation, and follow-up of group activities. The target people of the project are the MLGs and SFGs. 9.5 Kilometers of roads including 14 unions have been brought under this project so far. About 9532 saplings of fruit, forest and medicinal trees were planted on both the sides of the selected roads in 14 Unions. Volunteers selected from the beneficiary groups are engaged to look after the planted trees. When the trees are matured, the beneficiaries will get a share of 50% of the trees, owners of the roadside lands will get 50%, Union Parishad 5%, the govt. 10%, and the rest 15% will be used as revolving fund. Thanks to the project activities, awareness about plantation and social forestation has risen; greenery in the areas increased; community ownership increased; the target people will also benefit financially in the long run.


Environmental Conservation:

To ensure environmental conservation, advocacy campaigns are held round the year and as a component of different projects of the organization. In addition to, the awareness campaigns, seeds seedlings, fertilizers, plantation supports are provided to the beneficiaries. Volunteers selected from the beneficiary groups are engaged to look after the planted trees. The beneficiaries get profit shares from the fruits, fallen trees or branches, pruned leaves or branches, and also get wages for plantation and maintenance.


Nutrition Surveillance Education Project:

NADO implemented the nutrition program during 1994-2002. Under this program, gardening and surveillance activities related to nutrition education were carried out at Kashiani, Mukhsudpur Upazila at Gopalgonj district. The major project activities were to establish the village nurseries, homestead gardens, integration of nutrition education activities, soybean cooking demonstration and organize training at field level to implement the project activities. As a partner, NADO in their working areas played an important role to increase both the production and consumption of vegetables, fruits by households to prevent vitamin A deficiency.


ICT Training Program:

To build the Digital Bangladesh, NADO started ICT training since 2010. Now ICT training is the major & most successful project on which NADO implementing in rural area at Bangladesh. NADO wants to increase knowledge about Information Communication Technology (ICT) based on youth because world become dependable on ICT, without ICT no one can move any way.
